As a forager, Maymana Arefin often experiments with found materials in her work - using these to explore the entanglements between human/non-human, natural/manmade - breaking down existing binaries to create more expansive worlds together. To playfully explore these themes, Maymana designed a beginner-friendly workshop, introducing the art of woven textiles: using grasses, reeds, sedges, natural fibres, dyed wools and handmade recycled cardboard looms.
The following photographs were taken at a community weaving workshop that Maymana designed and facilitated for misery, a sober mental health collective for queer, trans and non-binary people of colour in London.
