Plant storytelling and herbal walks
across the UK
2021 - present

As a certified Horticulture teacher, a trained community gardener and wild forager, Maymana leads freelance plant storytelling, foraging and herbal walks. Drawing on her expertise as a forest school teacher, Maymana focuses on creating accessible, non-hierarchical group spaces in her walks, encouraging participants to engage with all of their senses, move at their own pace, ask questions, practise mindfulness and share lived experiences.

misery medicine: plant magic
is a monthly, in-person, immersive herb and plant medicine programme that supports queer and trans people of the global majority in learning about the herbs that grow wild all around us in London. Maymana Arefin has led and facilitated the programme since its inception in 2021. As part of each gathering, we make plant medicines that can support our health, witness how herbs interact with the seasons, engage in artmaking and discuss how to decolonise ideas of health, wellness and sustainability.
