Plant Sensory Zone
as part of Dear Earth: Art and Hope in a Time of Crisis
Hayward Gallery, London

Maymana Arefin was commissioned alongside artists Shepherd Manyika and Eliza Collin to co-create the first ever fully-dedicated ‘Relaxed Hours Studio’, a space to play, create and reflect at the Hayward Gallery, London alongside one of their most popular exhibitions.

Inspired by the ‘Dear Earth: Art and Hope in a Time of Crisis’ exhibition and in response to overall themes of nature-kinship and care, Maymana developed ‘Plant Sensory Zone’, a session to engage our senses with the plants in Southbank Centre’s rooftop garden. Prioritising deep rest and access through multiple entry points, Maymana encouraged participants to playfully interact with nature through touch, imprint-making in clay, tea tasting and free drawing.
